Eric Ovlen retired as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Development, with global responsibilities for a 3 billion dollar British aerospace company. He was born and raised in Oakland, California and has a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University at Hayward. 

Activities and Experience

He spent the first 13 years of his career working in the public sector for the cities of Oakland and San Leandro, California. Over the next several years, Eric was recruited to Vice President of Human Resources and Administration positions in a variety of industries, including: Lockheed (aerospace), Viacom (entertainment); Alps & Oki (Japanese electronics & semiconductor); and Pegasus (international gold mining).

Augmenting his professional career, Eric has taught at San Jose State University, DeAnza College and was an Adjunct Professor at CRC – a French business college outside Paris. He has twice been asked to be a speaker at the national conference for the Society for Human Resource Management.


Eric has been married for 41 years and has four children and three grandchildren. An avid sports fan, he officiated NCAA college and high school football for 31 seasons. To this day, he claims he learned more about negotiation and mediation on the football field than he ever did in the classroom. He is now an active tennis player at The World of Tennis.
A little known fact about Eric is that he has written and directed five, two and a half hour long, musical comedies that were performed as fund raisers before over 35,000 people and generated over a quarter of a million dollars for public education.

Eric and his wife, Pam, purchased their home in The Hills in 2011 and moved in permanently in 2012. In 2014, Eric was appointed to the Park Commission and served as Chairman in 2015. He began his service as an Alderman in November, 2015.
